Barbad Bayat is an internationally active composer working at the intersection of symphonic music, film, and large-scale visual storytelling. His artistic language—defined by emotional intensity, structural clarity, and cinematic orchestral scope—bridges Eastern musical heritage with Western compositional tradition, positioning him as a distinctive voice in contemporary music.
His international recognition includes his work as composer for Nowruz and the Night Sky, produced by National Geographic in collaboration with Disney Television (2022), as well as the Nowruz Animation, awarded the ProMax UK Award in 2023. He further reached a global audience through the Hoveyda Documentary (2023), with viewership exceeding 35 million, and continues to expand his film work with the feature film BOT (2026). In 2025, he received the award for Best Composition at the Genesis Film Festival. His orchestral and production expertise is reflected in projects such as orchestrating the Titanic Exhibition (2025) and serving as orchestrator and conductor for the Mavka Animation (2023).
His film and television portfolio spans Derbent Documentary (2022), The Golden Hour Dutch TV series (2022, conducting), I Witness Documentary (2014), and the television series White Situation (2011). His early symphonic work, Mona’s Dream – Symphonic Poems (2009), established his engagement with large-scale orchestral writing from an early stage. In addition to his compositional work, he has also produced recordings for Naxos, further demonstrating his versatility within the international music industry.
Since 2016, Barbad Bayat has been based in Prague, where he serves as conductor, composer, orchestrator, and U.S. agent for the Prague Metropolitan Orchestra, engaging in a wide range of international collaborations. Between 2019 and 2020, he worked as a freelance musician with the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, and from 2020 to 2025 he held a position as horn player at the DJKT Opera in Pilsen, Czech Republic. He previously served as Principal Horn of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra (2007–2008 and 2015–2016) and performed with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (2003–2006), bringing deep orchestral experience into his compositional and conducting practice.
Alongside his film and orchestral work, he is engaged in interdisciplinary artistic development through the ongoing Celestial Project (2020–present), in collaboration with National Geographic photographer Babak Tafreshi, exploring the relationship between music, astronomy, and visual narrative.
Earlier in his career, he worked as an in-house composer for Lenz Entertainment in Toronto (2009–2011), gaining extensive experience in media production and commercial composition.
The son of Babak Bayat, Barbad Bayat has established a fully independent and internationally oriented artistic identity. As Director of Composition & Film Scoring, he represents a contemporary model of composer—combining artistic depth with industry relevance, and approaching composition as both an intellectual discipline and a living, evolving cultural practice.
